It was painfully humid. The last thing I remembered was waking up in a room, surrounded by a bunch of statues of gargoyles. The cedar-colored tiles seemed to be made up of sediments of rocks or dirt, the vertices were carved with dead insects, and the countably two windows had cemented rods. I tried looking out the window, but there was nothing. It was dark; blank even. For a second, I doubted if I was alive. ‘Uh, how long have I been here again? A clock would help out a ton.’ It’s been a few days, I could hear screaming. ‘What is going on? Am I actually alive?’ I knew I wasn’t, but I still wanted hope. Looking deeper into it, the screaming didn’t sound like a human. I tried looking out the window again, but couldn’t see much due to the haze. Thankfully, my body was intact. Well, except for my eye. I don’t really know the reason, but my left eye ached a lot. The stoned gargoyles hadn’t moved yet, but it was kind of creepy. I remember reading a book about these things in the library. Gargoyles represent guardianship, which probably explains why I’m still safe. “Is ‘it’ sleeping?” I flinched as I heard that. One of the statues broke a wall with its axe, it was fascinating but terrified me all the same.
A small figure walked through, it was a girl. No, a blonde boy with two braids that interlocked at the back of his head. He looked to be around four – five years old, but I decided not to judge. A wall did break down because he ‘talked’. “Surprised? Well, my presence is awfully magnificent for a mere human. Anyways, I have your report. Your name is Keane Marene, age 19, female, tried eating a rubber duck at the age of 5, and ended up going to a hospital, you’re the second daughter of an infamous musician. Well anyways, you get it. I have all your information. Ever wondered why you’re here?” I hoped he didn’t see me hesitating. After all, he was a kid. “I actually did. Anyways, who even are you? Why am I here?” < “Sorry about him. He’s one of the new reapers. I’m Maye, he is rein.” >

A strange new figure came in, well she was running. I think she just wanted to look good but failed. She was panting miserably. Yet, her voice was clear and authoritative. I shivered for a second, before regaining my senses. Her hair was like blueberry cotton candy. Sky blue at the top, which dissolved into florentine lapis as it went down. Her eyes were brimming with light, and had a hue of pink. Her round glasses had simplistic but detailed carvings, they were covered with
golden powder. ‘Fairy dust? How amusing.’ The outfit she wore was minimal. A white coat, upon a hazel tank–top, followed by coffee-brown jeans. I might’ve been observing her for too long, so I averted my gaze. She laughed as if it was amusing, I scowled. I didn’t exactly want to be best buddies with a creep that kidnapped me. I decided to express hostility. “Reaper, huh? Well, I don’t believe you. Not even a bug would have that humiliating sense of fashion. Anyways, am I seriously dead.” < “No, you’re just here because you activated a ‘time fault’. You broke one of the laws of time, and reversed it, so you’re going to have to suffer here for a while. Rein’s here to help you out. Although, I would suggest being careful with him, he has a temper you see.” > I sighed. “I can see that.” I imagined the kid barking, and smirked a little. Of course, I was caught, but nobody pointed it out. I wouldn’t say I was grateful because I couldn’t read their thoughts. A week has passed since our ‘pleasant’ conversation. Nothing changed, the room was the same, the wall was covered with a black cloth that I couldn’t surprisingly move. Moreover, I had been avoiding the two ‘reapers’.

In the midst of nowhere, I saw something. A blue screen with a peculiar white font, it asked me if I wanted to ‘play’. Panicked, I looked around, there was nobody, the room was empty, the broken wall was fixed, and all of the gargoyles were staring at me.

After calming down and getting a mild grasp of what might have happened, I tried to be rational, and hence, decided to click on a red, circular button which was right below the question. I figured red was for denial and green symbolised affirmation. ‘I didn't really want to be a part of a questionable ‘game’ when I was already stuck in a complicated situation I couldn’t get out of.’ “The event shall commence!”

I fell on my knees upon hearing these words. Not sure why, but I felt greatly pressurised, stressed, and helpless upon hearing this particular voice. My eyes wanted to pop out, my nose started bleeding, and my heart began palpitating at an extreme rate. I could not do anything. Fortunately, this dense atmosphere felt much lighter after a while. I used this opportunity to pick up my thoughts while I pondered why the ‘speaker’ said ‘commence’, when I clearly clicked the red colored circle and not the green one.

It’s been a few days since that happened. I am still stuck in prison, but at least it seems a bit more comfortable since I am now used to these conditions. Unexpectedly, when everyone vanished, they were there; I supposedly fainted. The button incident turned out to be a weird imagination of mine. Weird dreams weren’t new after all.
“Wait…”
As I said that, a familiar blue screen appeared in front of me.
